Mission Statement

Perhaps the best way to characterize GLAMA is to recount how our mission statement was created. There were about eight folks sitting around Al Bates’ living room trying to figure out what we wanted this organization to look like. We all agreed on this:

The purpose of the great Lakes Acoustic Music Association is to preserve, perform, and promote the traditions of bluegrass and related forms of acoustic music.

We welcome the participation of all interested individuals, regardless of ability levels.

Mutual respect, courtesy and proper musical etiquette are the guiding principals of our sponsored events.

Acknowledging the many forms and definitions of acoustic music, we strive to be open-minded and accepting of all musical tastes.

Special emphases is placed on education. Involving youth is considered to be of primary importance in our goal of preserving this unique, American art form. Exposure to the historical heritage of the music together with theory and application are basic components of our sponsored events and activities.
